How to get a successfully shop window

Tips and tricks to get a successfully shop window for your store

Nowadays good visual merchandisers can create beautiful shop windows, but we believe that the knowledge of some simple rules can be of great help in the daily life of the store.

Below we intend to give you some advices that, in addition to your original ideas, we hope will make your work easier.

First  of all, before you begin to realize your shop window of success, it’s necessary you have a clear idea of what is more important to emphasize and what is the message you want to convey.

You can opt for a commercial approach, with simple exposure of the products for sale, or for an artistic one, as a work of art designed to capture attention.

In both cases is important to keep a coherent line of the external window with the interior of the store, otherwise customers would be lost once inside.

vetrina di successo 1The signage must allow to quickly find  the desidered department or, on the contrary, favor a path inside the store to see the other product categories.

The windows of monobrand shops are usually almost empty. Sobriety emphasizes brand and image. On the contrary those of shops smaller and with various brands and products, are usually full of references. Think about oriental shops, where windows and sales area are full of products with the “bazaar effect”. In conventional windows, it’s recommended noto to everdo it because exposure might result chaotic.

In the case of seasonal items (clothing, shoes), references to nature, holidays, traditions, are certainly useful to characterize a window in “line with the times”.

Price must be displayed for the products normally on sale, differentiating the presentation for special offers (as a percentage of discount or a crossed price), giving the perception that inside the store also other prices are discounted.

A good price holder surely gives an impression of order and clarity. The same can not be said about signs written in pen on pieces of cardboard.

As well as inclined or vertical label holders (universal), also some simple acrylic plates of large thickness, with the same size of the price tag or positioned above it, give a very attractive “lens” effect.

A new arrival is also the “sandwich” label holder, with large thickness acrylic sheets (8-10 mm), joint with magnet, inside which is placed the price tag.

A little trick: next to clothing, the addition of accessories (bags, belts, etc.) helps and advises customer to “total look”. It’s no longer necessary to go for shops, saving thus a lot of time.

Focal point

Identify an area in the central part of the window, clearly visible from the outside (important: if possible, from the inside too), with the diametre of about one metre, at eye level, to be the “strong point” that contains the most prestigious item, the one that reflects the identity of the mark, of the shop.vetrina di successo 2

A pedestal, a bookrest, a set of dedicated  spotlights, the frame of a picture, are just a few practical exemples of how to create this magnet for all bystanders.

Lighting is equally important to create plays of lights and shadows when night falls.

Nordic countries have always had a special sensitivity to make magic even the simplest shop window. Next to the technical choice (warm light, halogen lamps, leds etc.) it’s necessary to evaluate also the power consumption based on hours of light.

However lights must not be irritating, must not be pointed towards the outside (risk of dazzling), superimposed, crossed.

vetrina di successo 3But above all they don’t  have to change dramatically the exposed items colors. Obviously the focal point (see above) must receive a particularly refined and elegant lighting.

A “unique” shop window does not get unnoticed

The choice may be to exhibit the most polished items, or eye-catching decorative elements.

Large retailers prefere standardized windows, with modular elements but a unique presentation format.

Display

In the wide range of displays on the market, material may be of help in special cases (wood, metal, cardboard, etc.) but certainly acryilic resin (plexiglas and similar), with its transparency and neutrality, is one of the most suitable materials to highlight the product.

Clearly stability, aesthetic features and implementation details must be of the first rank.

A display that is poor, crawled, flaky, does not encourage the purchase.

Colors

Color transmits many sensations to the observer.

To understand the force that a color can convey, just think about colortherapy, an alternative medicine of oriental origins which cures many diseases with colors.

Depending on the kind of window you want to have, you can use simple and timeless colors or innovative  fluorescent and luminescent colors.

Experience shows that is better not to overdo it with background colors and choose, on the contrary, the transparency of plexiglas, that preserves the colors of displayed items.

PPP ceilings into a Museum

PPP false ceilings can be inserted with elegance and sobriety in a museum context too, as shown by the exemplary application in the archaelogical museum in Altino (Venice), located along an old roman road and dedicated to roman and paleovenetians finds.

Just a few hundred metres as the crow files, is the island of Torcello, very important as a natural “bridge” that led to the birth of Venice.

A visit to the museum is therefore recommended to understand the genesis of this extraordinary city. From 1966 to present were examined, almost annually, large sections, also extended for kilometres, of street Annia, of the way to Oderzo and of the connetting urban road with the latter.

controsoffitti nei musei

These excavations unearthed more than 2.000 grave goods, many funeral monuments and above all enabled the acquisition of a unique

wealth of information about the roman funerary culture.

When this museum was opened there were a thousand objects, whereas now the consistency of the material amounts to about forty thousand pieces. The peculiarity that distinguishes it from other national venetian archaelogical museums, is the direct relationship with the vast surrounding archaelogical area.

Due to continuous flow of a huge amount of excavated material, it was necessary, over the years, to practice several enlargements of the museum deposits which led to transfer this new museum in the two rural buildings specially purchased by the State, inaugurated and opened to the public july 4, 2015.

In Altino our product is art 142, black color and it acts as an elegant false ceiling within the display cases.

It’s relatively small in size, therefore it’s not necessary to suspend it by some reduntant bracings.

You simply have to install it to obtain the desired surfaces using modules with snap fitting, choosing 400×400 mm or 200×200 panels. The trimming can be performed subsequently with a simple hacksaw. The operation ends resting it on the perimetre board.

Flatness is ensured by the grid structure and the lightness of the article. Pictures were taken  with permission of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage.

PPP false ceilings in churches: in Poland we have special customers

Grid false ceilings and churches in Poland

Ourgrid false ceilings are usually used in a purely exhibition, commercial and fair sectors, always in the most prestigious and elegant locations, but in Poland we are honored to participate in the construction of religious buldings too.

Here, in fact,  there are many churches with historic architecture, but also many new buildings designed by famous contemporary architects who make use of innovative materials.

Thanks to our Partner, following for many years and with success the Polish market, we can mention with pride among our references, three churches in Krakow and surroundings, where our grid false ceilings have been included in an exemplary way, making full use of existing great surfaces (from 800 to 1600 mq in a single surface) and giving a unique and original connotation. In all three cases product lightness and assembly characteristics are better than those of other kinds of grid false ceilings.

Metal is in fact heavy and more suitable in shopping malls, lightened plaster and wood are really unrealistic for such buildings, not to speak of drywall, that can not be used on so large surfaces.

Furthermore a better inspection is ensured by plastic false ceiling, removable and restorable at any point with the guarantee to reinstate a unique surface after intervention.

In a time when many buildings seem arisen “at random”, with these three churches architects and builders made a through study of the worship and meditation places.

In the Holy Albert Brother Church ( 303 Dywzjonu street, Krakow), art 159, 200×200 mm mesh, single element, self-extinguishing, the last to complete the range of PPP ceilings, is used here with a great decorative effect, matching “cream”  and “metallic brass”  colored elements, to create a single surface with a regular geometry, installed some 15 metres high.

Saint John Kanty Church (Armii Kajowej street, Krakow), art 129, white, auto-extinguishing false ceiling (40×40 mm mesh, panels 600×600) is installed not perfectly flat as indicated  by our “classical” instructions, but using hangers of different lenghts, suitable calculated to maintain the curvature within the material flexibility range.

The result is a gigantic curved section, giving the effect of a large net of biblic inspiration.

The coupling seal between panel is guaranteed by a special and invisible interlocking connection system.

Given its size, it’s not possible to photograph the fully installed surface.

Photos express only in part the complexity of this work of art, installed to tens of metres high, following a project daring but perfectly integrated to the sacredness of the place.

Lighting consists of a starry sky in dimmable leds, illuminated for the first time on christmas eve at the stroke of midnight, with a really striking effect.

Holy Cross Church (1, Mieszka street, Katowice) is the most recent project, not yet fully completed.

We intend to visit it once finished  and post pictures on our blog.

Here is used art 129, 40×40 mm mesh, panel 400×400, in self- extinguishing version EN13964, Euroclass Bs2dO (in line with the strictest european standards, thanks to the latest generation thermoplastic materials selected by our best suppliers).

HOW TO INSTALL A FALSE CEILING

PPP false ceilings are easy to install, even by unqualified workers. However, you must follow some simple instructions for a perfect assembly as follows below.

installare un controsoffitto 1

Apply a finisching hemline and drill at regular intervals (80 cm) the ceiling

installare un controsoffitto 2

Apply a suspenssion every 80 cm more or less

So, how to install a false ceiling? You have to apply a finishing hemline (wood, aluminum, plastic, etc..).

This is not made to carry weight and its job is only to hide the joint line ceiling–wall and the expansion gap that you (see below) must calculate, expecially for large surfaces.

Provide for a ceiling suspension, applying plugs at regular intervals, to wich are fixed hangers in soft iron wire (not nylon wire because it does not guarantee a uniform expansion).

Otherwise it’s possible to use adjustable hangers, commonly used for other types of false ceilings. The recommended distance between suspension is about 80 cm and is to be considered as indicative but necessary to ensure flatness to PPP false ceilings. In this way the average weight of about 3-4 kg per square metre is evenly distributed in the ceiling.

Outline of the main fitting points (section)

Join some grids, respecting (important) the panel direction. The first panel will have flaps facing the walls. The facade with the holes must necessarily be upwards, to allow the correct suspension.

Apply a joiner eyelet in any hole on the back of a panel in correspondence of the hanger and connect it to suspend the whole. It’s not necessary to fix every single panel since the hook is extremely solid and retractable and surface becomes unique.Proceed with other panels that can be pre-assembled on the ground. The ceiling flatness is obtained by adjusting the lenght of the hanger.Just use a wood board of the desired lenght to maintain a constant level of the floor, or some laser levels if prefered.

SIf you consider that by joining three panels (60 x 60 cm) is obtained, in less than a minute, a one-square-metre ceiling, you can imagine the setting speed for important surfaces too.

installare un controsoffitto 4

Assemble panels up to hear the twitch of  connection

installare un controsoffitto 3

Insert a carpenter’s eye in a hole on the back panel

False ceilings can be easily inspected. By releasing more panels along the side of connection, you get a “window” (it’s resealable after intervention, getting in this way the initial uniform surface, differently from metal false ceilings where interventions are always visible).Hatches, skylights etc.. are superfluous.

You can very easily drill or trim the panels to make them fit the room or to insert spots, pillars etc., only by using a simple hacksaw.

Our grid false ceiling (3-4 kg per square metre) is decorative only. For these reason transformers or heavy luminous bodies has to be anchored directly to the wall. The grid structure prevents heat buildup. I

As an alternative to “free” installation, which we recommend for costs and praticality, 20×20 and 40×40 formats can be installed with the addition of mineral fiber T24 on the structure. In this case panels have to be pre-assembled and trimmed to obtain these measures: 595×595 (20×20 mm mesh)   or 592×592 (40×40 mesh). On request we can perform a trimming operation (with a small surcharge), in order to provide panels ready for laying.

installare un controsoffitto 5

Surface is unique, light, bright and elegant

All our false ceilings are antistatic but anyway we suggest not to install them in dusty environments and only when work is completed.

With large surfaces we recommend to provide, along the perimetre of the room, a thermal expansion space. The average variation is 1 mm per linear metre every 10o C. of temperature range.

Except in some exceptional cases (installation at very low temperatures in environments getting then very hot) thermal expansion is therefore negligible. For optimum results, avoid leaving fingerprints during assembly of metallic false ceilings. We recommend use of light cotton gloves.
